Innovation description | RVG 204 is the first machine harvestable desi variety of chickpea for central and northern India. This variety has high yield potential in rainfed condition (2.20 to 2.25 mt/ha). it has desirable abiotic and biotic stress robustness, and dietary characteristics including digestibility, and high contents of iron, zinc, and protein. this variety will potentially contribute to SDG`s 1,2,3,8,10,12 and 13. |

Stage Description | Parental crossing for this variety was done in 2000 followed by bulk and individual plant selections, and field performance tests. RVG 204 is ready for uptake by farmers and released for cultivation in India on May 8, 2020. This variety can replace the existing varieties JG 11, and RVG 203. |
