Innovation Title | Ambient ware potato storage technology in Uganda |
Innovation description | Farmers in Uganda typically use light stores or light rooms in the house for potato storage. However, these are suitable only for storing seed potato because light promotes sprouting. The innovation consists of 8MT capacity improved stores that are dark and allow temperature control by taking advantage of the cool air at night. |

Stage of Innovation | Stage 2: successful piloting |
Year (Stage) | 2020 |
Stage Description | The technical viability of the stores has been proven: when suitable varieties are stored, they can be kept for up to three months while maintaining quality and marketability. Recent research has shown that the increased revenues due to higher prices during the off-season allow the recovery of the investment. |
