General information

Innovation ID851
Version ID530
Innovation TitleGeneration 8 of genetically improved farmed tilapia (GIFT) has been produced in India
Innovation description Fully-pedigreed genetic improvement program for GIFT established in India. GIFT germplasm was supplied to the WorldFish's partner in the genetic program, the Rajiv Ghandi Center for Aquaculture (RGCA) , in 2011 and 2016. Considering 2011 as G0 in India, RGCA has now produced 41 families of G8 in 2020. Tilapia re selected to be faster-growing, hardier and more disease-resistant.
