About 50 dual-purpose hybrid parents (both seed and restorer parents) in diverse backgrounds having resistance to downy mildew and blast developed. New germplasm identifed and utilized in crossing programs. New trait-specific composites developed. Completed molecular mapping of downy mildew and blast resistance. Completed marker-assisted transfer of downy mildew and blast resistance QTL for at least 4 parental lines of popular hybrids. Farmers have increased hybrid options for cultivation in better-endowed environment.
