Sustainable Development Goals Contribution

FISH research promoted intra-regional fish trade by supporting inclusion of fish within the commodities that can be traded through the One Stop Border Post at Busia, Uganda.

In the effort to promote intra-regional fish trade, FISH research has supported the inclusion of fish within the commodities that can be traded through the One Stop Border Post at Busia, Uganda. This measure facilitates cross-border fish-trade between Kenya and Uganda, encouraging legally recognised trade of safe fish, thereby increasing market access opportunities for fish traders. In the effort to promote intra-regional fish trade, FISH research has supported the inclusion of fish within the commodities that can be traded through the One Stop Border Post at Busia, Uganda. Despite the success of this piloting promoted by a Worldfish bilateral project funded by the EU, and by further investments provided by WorldBank, there is not yet a clear plan for scaling and replication of this approach.
