Ghana’s new Aquaculture Development Plan was launched in Accra on 23 November 2022. Inspired by the success of the Tilapia Seed Programme, sponsored by WorldFish and the International Food Policy Research Institute, and implemented in collaboration with some local partners, the new plan sets the target and the priorities to increase the country’s fish farming output from 89,376 tonnes in 2021 to 211,697 tonnes by the end of 2027 – an increase of 136 percent. The plan followed extensive consultation with stakeholders in the industry, and participants felt that its objectives were achievable.
