The TAAT aquaculture compact led by WorldFish provided technical support to the Aquacultural Association of Kenya to analyse and formulate the petition for for the revision of veterinary bill.



The Animal Welfare and Protection Bill 2019; and the Veterinary Public Health Bill, 2019 that were laid before the Kenyan Parliament in 2019 classifies fish and fish products as animal food. This poses consistent threats to the commercialization of fish and fish products, including possibility for export, due the specific characteristics of the fish and fish products that requires specific arrangements. The Aquacultural Association of Kenya (AAK) working closely with the TAAT aquaculture compact led by WorldFish submitted a memorandum with recommendations for a distinct fisheries sector under an independent department in Kenya.
