Sustainable Development Goals Contribution

PeskAAS Small-scale fisheries monitoring system, designed and established through a number of WorldFish led project, has now been fully adopted by government as their national fisheries monitoring platform.

PeskAAS—a pseudo-acronym for fisheries (peskas) in the national language of Timor-Leste, Tetum, combined with Automated Analytics System. PeskAAS connects open source programs to collect, communicate, analyse and visualise SSF movement and catch data. The system, which has previously been donor-funded and supported by private company PDS (providing tracking units) has been fully adopted by government, with them paying salaries of 13 full time field enumerators, and taking up the commercial contract with the PDS. In 2021 Timor-Leste will report their annual fisheries statistics to FAOs global database using outputs from the PeskAAS system.
