ABOUT US

The project delivers priority research and development outcomes for the Sustainable Aquaculture Flagship of the CGIAR Research Program on FishAgriFood Systems (FISH), with reference to Cluster 1 and Cluster 3. The project is intended to accelerate the dissemination and adoption of improved tilapia strains developed by WorldFish, contributing to SRF2022 targets for adoption of improved varieties, exciting poverty and reduction in essential micronutrient deficiencies.

OUR IMPACT

Goals

The main project goal is to increase the adoption of improved tilapia strains by poor fish producers and deliver improved productivity and profitability of small scale fish production systems so that poo producers, particularly women, are enabled to exit poverty while improving natural resource systems to sustain future fish production.

Objectives

The purpose is to design dissemination systems for improved tilapia, based on relevant gender sensitive and contextual knowledge, that will enable poor small scale fish farmers to adopt and benefit from improved strains of tilapia.

Intervention Strategy(ies)

Bangladesh, Malawi and Myanmar are chosen to represent different stages along the continuum from development and dissemination of improved tilapia strains, representing key countries within the FISH CRP where fish plays an important role in food and nutrition security and aquaculture development, with significant potentials to assist poor farmer, including women, escape poverty. WorldFish has offices and a strong network of academic and development partnerships within these countries so that the projects can draw on extensive research, management and operational capacities of all research and implementation partners.

Impact Pathway

The project delivers research outputs and outcomes at national level in three target countries that will contribute directly to the BMZ's Investment Model Outcomes Targets 1 and 3 with change mechanisms outlined in the Impact Pathway, thus enabling research outcomes to contribute to development outcomes in the CGIAR's Strategy and Results Framework. These outputs and outcomes are delineated in the Impact Pathway.
